The Voices of Memory
Taking the form of a fascinating journey in time and space, this programme will present ‘The Voices of Memory’ from the rich and complex ancient region of Europe named Balkan (‘Honey & Blood’) during the Ottoman conquest in the 15th century. Muslim, Christian and Jewish singers and musicians from twelve different countries (Bosnia, Serbia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Armenia, Syria, Israel, France and Spain) revive an extraordinary musical heritage, which was developed during the four hundred years of Ottoman domination and has been preserved in old manuscript sources and in various ancient, but still living oral traditions up to our days.
