Festival not held
Max Reinhardt’s plan to perform Das Mirakel ("The Miracle"), Karl Vollmoeller’s play on the legend of the Virgin Mary, miscarried due to shortage of funds, a prohibition on using the Collegiate Church as a theatre, and an America tour undertaken by his ensemble. In the autumn, disagreements arose between the Festival’s directors, resulting in the dismissal of the Viennese group. Richard Strauss stepped down as president and was replaced by Salzburg’s deputy mayor, Richard Hildmann. The headquarters and offices of the Festival Theatre Association were moved to Salzburg.
