A Conversation with the Female Finalist of the Young Conductors Award - Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla

( 17 Apr 2012 ) On April 28 and 29, the Award Concert Weekend takes place for the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award at the Felsenreitschule. We would like to introduce the three finalists to you and have asked them a few questions about themselves, their love for music and the finale which they are about to compete in. In three subsequent blogs, you can get an impression of Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Christian Baldini and Jamie Phillips. Following the motto “Ladies first,” we begin today with the Lithuanian Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, who conducts the Camerata Salzburg with soloist Dan Zhu on April 29, 2012 at 7:30 pm.

The Concert Programs of the Three Finalists of the “Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award” Have Been Announced

( 30 Mar 2012 ) They were selected from 91 applicants by a jury chaired by Ingo Metzmacher: the three finalists of the “Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award 2012”. The programs with which the three young conductors – the 20-year-old Briton Jamie Phillips, the 33-year-old Argentine Christian Baldini and the 26-year-old Lithuanian Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla – will present themselves for the first time to a large audience have now been determined. As part of the Award Concert Weekend on April 28 and 29, 2012, they will introduce themselves at the Felsenreitschule. Cleopatra and the Snake

( 5 Mar 2012 ) This year’s Salzburg Whitsun Festival is dominated by Queen Cleopatra. The great Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin has been commissioned to write a work about this mythical figure. His narration combines old and new elements, is inspired by Shakespeare and allows Anna Netrebko to sing in her mother tongue. The mini-opera offers a universal story, replete with grand drama and fresh text. Brigitte Kempen (Opernglas) met Rodion Shchedrin in Munich, to learn more about this upcoming world premiere.

Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award 2012 - Three finalists have been announced

( 10 Feb 2012 ) Out of 91 applicants, including 19 women, the jury of the “Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award” chaired by Ingo Metzmacher has selected three conductors, two men and one woman: the 20-year-old Englishman Jamie Phillips, the 33-year-old Argentinean Christian Baldini and the 26-year-old Lithuanian Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. The three finalists will present themselves to the public on April 28 and 29 during the Award Concert Weekend.

Thomas Quasthoff will return to the Salzburg Festival stage

( 1 Oct 2011 ) Since today, October 1, 2011, Alexander Pereira is the new Artistic Director of the Salzburg Festival. At the same time, Sven-Eric Bechtolf becomes Director of Drama at the Salzburg Festival. President Helga Rabl-Stadler will continue to be responsible for the business agenda of the Festival. On November 11, the new Directorate will introduce the audience to the program of the 2012 Salzburg Festival.
