Andrzej Filończyk*

Andrzej Filończyk was born in Poland in 1994 and was six when he had his first piano lessons. Since June 2014 he has been studying at the Opera Academy of the Polish National Opera at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw. He has enjoyed many successes at national and international singing competitions, including a first prize at the International Vocal Competition in Petrovice, where he was also awarded a prize for the best interpretation of a 20th-century song.
Andrzej Filończyk made his operatic debut as Tonio (Pagliacci) under Gabriel Chmura at the Stanisław Moniuszko Teatr Wielki in Poznań, a performance for which he won the award for Debut of the Year. Here, too, he made his role debut as Eugene Onegin in January 2016, also under Gabriel Chmura.
Among the concert works in which Andrzej Filończyk has been heard are Fauré’s Requiem, which he performed at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw. He has attended masterclasses with Eytan Pessen, Rudolf Piernay, Ryland Davies, Neil Shicoff, Richard Cross, Izabela Kłosińska, Teresa Żylis-Gara and Christina Kluge and has also taken part in acting workshops with the director Lubor Cukr.
As a participant in the 2016 Salzburg Festival’s Young Singers Project, Andrzej Filończyk is appearing as the Servant in Thaïs.
