Chad Lynch

Chad Lynch was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1971. He studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts and lives in New York City. As a properties carpenter, he has constructed numerous props and sets for productions at the Guthrie Theater (Shakespeare’s King Lear, director: Garland Wright; Kleist’s Der zerbrochne Krug, director: Liviu Ciulei; Aphra Behn’s The Rover, director: JoAnne Akalaitis; Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, director: Joe Dowling). He has also worked in the same position at the Public Theater – Shakespeare in the Park, at the Theatre de la Jeune Lune and for numerous Broadway productions (Steven Schwartz' Wicked, Rodgers/Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights). Furthermore, he has worked for the US stations HBO, MTV, Showtime, Nickelodeon and VH-1, and, as a construction coordinator, for Comedy Central (Upright Citizens Brigade, Chappelle’s Show). He was responsible for set construction for movies like The Visitor and Mallrats. In 2010 Lynch founded the production company Heywood Productions. He developed show programmes for the Chimaera Physical Theatre in Northampton and created the revue Evening Becomes Eclectic for the Theatre de la Jeune Lune. In 2011 he first met the stage director, set and costume designer Julian Crouch and built the sets for his production The Devil & Mister Punch. One year later, he took on set construction for Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, again in cooperation with Julian Crouch: this was a production by Brian Mertes for his legendary open-air theatre spectacular near Lake Lucille in upstate New York. Chad Lynch sees himself as a builder, designer, actor, dancer, sculptor and producer. The daily newspaper Star Tribune (Minneapolis) called him “a sort of postmodern Renaissance man”.
