Salzburg Festival Opening Party · Day 1
“It is, however, the relationship with the audience which is the ultimate reality in theatre”: Hugo von Hofmannsthal thus described the close relationship between artists and audience. In this spirit, we want to celebrate the Festival Opening Party this year with the citizens of Salzburg and our guests.
The children’s chorus Salzburg Festspiele und Theater Kinderchor under the baton of Wolfgang Götz celebrates its 10-year anniversary by performing at the University’s Main Auditorium together with the Zurich Opera’s youth chorus SoprAlti. The grande dame of opera, KS Christa Ludwig, gives a public master class as part of the Young Singers Project 2018, passing on her knowledge and experience to the participants. And at the Haus für Mozart, you have the opportunity to rediscover L’Histoire du soldat. 100 years after the premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s masterwork, The Fiddler’s Tale, the version by the American jazz musician and composer Wynton Marsalis, will be performed. Our Jedermann, Tobias Moretti, has personally adapted the powerful text about a violinist who sells his soul.
“Passion and ecstasy” are not only the leitmotif of his year’s Festival programme, but are also reflected in our celebrations to launch the Festival in multiple ways. The musicians of the Jedermann Ensemble are undeniably passionate, and they appear in smaller formations under the names Sinfonia De Carnaval, ZINQ or Niko Leopold Quartet, making the city squares reverberate with their energy. Literary passions will be recited by Tobias Moretti, Stefanie Reinsperger and Peter Lohmeyer, and the performances by Ensemble Klavier Korea and Café Drechsler are sure to be ecstatic. We look forward to celebrating with you!
