Opera on Film
Already a tradition is the collaboration with the Salzburg Film Culture Center DAS KINO. As part of “Rossinissimo” it will complete our staged and concert performances with a filmographic retrospective that will include rarely seen Rossini operas on the one hand, and films with legendary artists such Tito Gobbi and his Figaro or exemplary stagings such as the famous achievements of Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. A welcome addition will be the biographical film Rossini! Rossini! with Philippe Noiret as aging Rossini and Jacqueline Bisset as his first muse and wife, Isabella Colbran, which is rarely shown and will be of great interest to all Rossini-fans. This Italian film was made by Mario Monicelli (1915-2010) who is considered one of the fathers of Italian film comedy and whose aethestics had a great influence on pop culture.
