Print programme (PDF)
Wolfgang Rihm, born in Karlsruhe in 1952, is one of the most productive and many-sided composers living today. His mixture of inexhaustible imagination, creative vitality and shrewd self-reflection has enabled him to produce a rich and variegated body of music that already includes more than four-hundred works in all genres. Rihm’s music bears witness to a faith in the indestructibility of the creative individual who can maintain strength and dignity in the face of outside perils.
Rihm is a musician of wide-ranging intellectual attainments who carries on a brisk dialogue with the sister arts. His precise, highly philosophical essays on the problems of artistic creation have literary stature and have broadened the horizons of readers and listeners alike.
