Dries Verhoeven, Concept and direction

All around us are strangers. What happens if you watch and listen to them? If you realize that you too are a stranger to them – and can be watched and listened to? You Are Here traces a clear line between those strangers and yourself, and at the same time it dissolves the line in an almost magical way.
The spectacular installation extends over 150 square meters. Each audience member is allocated a hotel bedroom, where he is alone and anonymous, seeing only himself reflected in the mirror ceiling. But when the mirror moves upwards, the picture zooms out, and he catches a glimpse of the people on the other side of the wall – an experience as poetic as it is confusing, demonstrating the simultaneity of our own reality with everyone else’s, close and strange as they may be.
